The Joys Summer: Millington YMCA

There's nothing like spending your first day of summer vacation at the pool! We joined the Millington YMCA today for the summer. I love their outdoor pool because most of it only goes to 2 1/2 feet deep so Jillian can stand in it! Or sit:

Or crawl:

In the deeper section, Ryan can jump in, practice a little swimming and go down the slide:

And if Scott and I like, we can go work out!

The Joys of Summer: Trucks!

Right outside our house!

Sometimes I think it's funny how things that could be annoyances become excitement when you have young children.

I seem to remember reading something in a Robert Fulghum (All I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten) book that encouraged you to "become a fan of wonder and awe." I have always looked for the little things that make life great and I LOVE sharing those things with my children now.

So how cool is it that one morning we look out front and get to see them tearing up our road?

Pretty cool!

More Jillian Songs

A few of her greatest hits:

Row, row, row your boat. (starts off sounding like "Baa, baa black sheep, but she gets the "Merrily, merrily part)

Twinkle, twinkle little star. (gets a little shakey at the end)

We will rock you. (I think she learned this at daycare)

And just a general discussion about smoothies. (she loves listing out everyone's names right now)

Memorial Day

We started the day with a ceremony in Bartlett. It was a good way to remember the day.

Then, up to Millington to pick strawberries. So happy to find that there were plenty still to pick AND that their first peaches were ready...sweet like honey!

This looks like a good one...

...yep, sure is!

He's a pro at this now:

After going home to change into bathing suits, we headed over to the Paulo's for some swimming. When Carrie talked about a tree that they needed to get rid of, the men were happy to oblige:

Then there was some swimming:

By little people eager to keep up with big brothers, too:

And some going off the diving board:

After dinner we made strawberry milkshakes:

and played outside:

Last Day of School

So, here we are. Last day of kindergarten. It's a half day and I feel bad because I have a full day of teacher inservice so Ryan has to go to aftercare. But then we found out they were having a luau with inflatable water slides. Then he didn't mind too much.

I am so thankful for a great year!!!

Program and Picnic Pictures

OK, for those who are curious, you run out of space at 1GB and it took me a little under 5 years to do it! For $5 per year, you can get 20GB of storage, which seems like a pretty good deal since it is backing up some of the most important pictures I have on Picasa. Cheaper than the iBackup I am about to get rid of!

So, Ryan's program. Here's the 4 and 5 ker's doign their "Home on the Range" production. Ryan's in the middle of the front row on the stage with the red bandana around his neck:

Jillian got dressed up for it too:

Then it was off to the playgroundin Arlington for lunch and some play time. The swing was a big hit:

We gave the teachers their end of year gifts, one of which was a digital album. I think they liked it. I loved watching them look through it with the students!

One last picture with Mrs. Benedetti and Mrs. Wagner:

Ryan's Spring Program and Picnic

Wow! Apparently I have run out of space to upload pictures to my blog, so until I fgure that out, enjoy this video of Ryan's special part in the Spring Program: square dancing to Skip to my Lou. He is part of the third couple from the right.

Last Soccer Game

Ryan had his last game of the season today. Scott got to coach and did a fabulous job! We're trying to decide what to do next year...step up to a more skills based team, or go with a team at Ryasn's school. I'm just glad he's still having fun with it!

And Nanny, he scored you two goals!

Jillian's ABC's

Jillian is learning bits and pieces of songs right now. Row, row, row your boat; Twinkle twinkle; The wheels on the bus are some of her favorites. Here she is singing her ABC's.

Little Moments of Fun

Sometimes squeezing in little outings and moments of fun canbe the greatest parts of life. The week started with a messy donut after church:

While Ryan was at school one day, we "played" Sorry. She's knows the name of the game andlikes to move the pieces and hand out cards. Good for when it's me and her, not so good when Ryan and I are playing.

A littlw walk in the woods on Wednesday evening. Jillian hiked all of the 1.5 mile blue trail by herself!

Hunting (and finding!) tadpoles on Thursday evening:

Setting the table:

Discovering Tinkerbell. Now that she has the pj's and likes them, the wings that she wouldn't wear last Halloween are ok:

Today, I got to march with the faculty again for St. George's 6th commencement. Our Class of 2011:

There are many seniors I don't know, but I did teach 9 of them this year, plus I counted 19 that I have tutored at some point or another over the past few years.

Me, Kellie, and Sarah:

Field Trip, Field Day and Summer Birthdays!

On Monday, Ryan's class went to the Children's Museum of Memphis. First they visited with "Stuffy"

Stuffy's organs come out so kids can learn about the human body. Ryan's classmates Anna Claire and Joshua got to help take out the small intestines!

Then it was on to stations. Roberto, Ryan and Abby listened to their hearts:

And put the organs in the right places on their bodies:

After Stuffy, we got to explore the rest of the museum. Some climbing:

Some water. This was cool so Ryan could see how flood waters rise in the flood plains:

There was a traveling "Wizard of Oz" exhibit. The Wizard:

And some Munchkins:

Today was Field Day at school. Beause of the rain, they did relays indoors. Waiting to start:

The obstacle course:

Bean Bag Toss:

Sack Race:

Dress Silly Relay:

Inner Tube Relay:

And they finished the event off with popsicles. That's Ryan and his good buddy Joshua:

Later, Ryan was one of two students in his class to celebrate his summer birthday, since they wouldn't be in school for it.

Ryan and Zach got their picture taken in the ice cream truck:

Then all the kindergarteners with summer birthdays got sang to:

And were the first to get their ice cream:
