Ice Skating!

The Memphis Zoo built an ice rink for the holidays last year and kept it up through January. It was too crowded when we went to Zoo Lights, but we promised we'd come back. Flash-forward to this weekend, the final weekend of ice skating and we still haven't gone!

Scott's been traveling a lot this month, so I just decided it was time. Got a sitter for Jillian and Ryan and I headed out. It was his first time:

I warned him he would fall a lot, but he kept getting up and trying again. He preferred holding my hand to holding the wall. Eventually, he was just holding my finger and getting his balance better.

And by the end, he was doing it on his own:

Our friends Melissa, Mason and Doug joined us too:

I am so proud of Ryan's efforts and attitude today!

100th Day!

Today, the kindergarten classes at Ryan's school celebrated the 100th day of school! Every student put 100 of something on a t-shirt and wore it to school. Then, they paraded through school. The older students came out to watch the parade:

Here's some of Ryan's class:

I took Ryan to Hobby Lobby last week to pick out what he wanted to put on his shirt. He decided on googly-eyes:

There were some pretty creative shirts! Ryan's class:

Cute Jillian

Lately, when we leave the house, Jillian wants to bring about 4 or 5 things with her. On this day, she kept naming them all over and over, "book, wawa, baby, bus":

She does part of the tooth brushing process and this week I noticed she was doing it kind of right (as opposed to just sucking the toddler toothpaste off the brush):

She loves to go through my make up when I am getting ready in the morning; opening and closing everything. Today was her first time putting any on:

She usually sits on the counter while I make oatmeal for Ryan, her and I. Sometimes she gets started before I move her to her chair:

Copying a cute angle taken by a blogger I follow:

And as long as I'm playing photo shoot, let's try this angle:

This Moment

You love your dollies right now and for some reason today you wanted to sit in the basket that holds their stuff.

When Daddy gets home from work you say, "Pick me and Bentley up" and your good Daddy does.

Girl's Weekend

Ready to hit the road for my annual Girl's Getaway weekend to Greer's Ferry.

It was a smaller group this year. Carrie and I drove up first and unpacked our stuff (I am ready to do last year's family album, in Project Life):

Crista and Sarah arrived later.

Carrie's glue stick got moldy (admittedly, it's been awhile since she used it):

On both Saturday and Sunday I got out to walk & jog:

Back in Maryland, some of my girlfriends whom I used to scrap with were also on a girl's weekend in Ocean City! We skyped on Sunday (see me on the computer screen?) and Tori took this picture:

I love it here! And I love my girlfriends!

Ryan Update

Working on homework afterschool:

His entry for their class book "What I am Thankful For."

And, READING! This book from a friend has been great! It's the old fashioned "Dick and Jane" but it starts very simple and adds more words (and reuses the same words) and sentences as it goes. He actually read this to himself when he woke up early this morning!

Sow Day!

Last night this started around 6pm:

Ryan and I had off and Scott worked from home which made for a fun snow day! The kids and I went out early, but a little someone didn't last too long.

Later, when she took her nap, Ryan and I went back out. First, we sled:

Santa did good on those presents!

Then we built a whole snow family. Daddy:

Mama:

And Junior walking the snow dog:

One more time out when Jillian got up and Scott was done working. We all went to another hill.
All bundled up:

Scott got his turn:

And Jillian went down with me. She fussed through it, but then said "Whee."

A fun family day!

Basketball

Ryan wanted to play basketball this year, so we signed him up with St. Francis. Our first practice & game were this morning.

Scott's helping out (which means coralling the kids on the court) and got to be in the team picture:

Jillian's having fun with some of the players' sisters (when she's not trying to run out on the court!):

Waiting his turn:

Running fast down the court:

Dribbling:

Ready:
His first shot (and it went in!):

The teams are made up of SFA students and SFA church members, so a bunch of Ryan's buddies are on the other teams.

More Fish

Santa brought Ryan a gift card to PetSmart to get himself some more fish. After gettingback from our Maryland trip last night, we went out to get them today.

Meet the fish: on the left is Rock, behind the green spikey plant is Ed, Sam is in the middle, Oz is hiding behind the castle, and Rick is our original fish on the right.

We also got two snails in an effort to keep the aquarium clean.
It's fun watching them clean the glass:
