All About Me

Hi folks! Just a little note to let you know that all that food I am eating is making me bigger! I am 15 pounds, 12 ounces.

I am also fitting into my 6-9 month clothes (thanks Sarah and Aunt Sandy for these!), and shoes!

Daddy thought it was silly that I was wearing shoes ("She can't walk yet!"), but then we tried to explain to him that a girl needs her accesories!

Love, Jillian

Sunday in the Park

We got a rare break in the weeklong rain this evening, so we headed over to our favorite park in Arlington.

Jillian liked the baby swings:

And the playground, too:

Ryan and Scott ran around and climbed the wall:

Bath Time

I do not like the baby bath tub I have for Jillian. So tonight, I tried putting both kids in the tub together. She is sitting up pretty well, and I figured Ryan could help from the inside. Plus, it made for good pictures. They are too sweet!

"Solid" Foods

Jillian really seems to be enjoying eating! She opens her mouth and makes happy "mmm, mmm!" sounds when she wants more.

Mommy, opening her mouth:

Jillian, doing the same:

She loves to play with the spoon (and the washcloth afterwards when we are cleaning her up):

Yea, carrots!

My Big Backyard

What follows is way too many pictures of Ryan playing in the most amazing kid's garden. It's a new one at the Memphis Botanical Gardens and if you live in the area I highly recommend you check it out! It is free on Wednesdays (not sure if that's all day or just afternoon).

We went with Paula and her girls, Allie and Abby, during a break from the rain. Then got wet anyway.

A New Season of Soccer

Ryan had his first game of the season today and I was amazed at how much he has improved. This is his 4th season, and his age really does make a difference. He and Jared (below left) are two of the oldest, biggest boys on the team. He is controlling the ball better, attacking it more; it is just so great to see.

This was goal three:

I am pretty sure he scored more, but I do not know how many (what's it matter, once you've got a hat trick, anyway?). This shot shows his form, although this one did not result in a goal:

This is Daddy's new thing: "Hands on knees, eyes on ball."

And a little celebrating!

Six Months

Guest post from Jillian. Just wanted to let everyone know that I am half-year-old today and I am into everything! A shout out to Miss Carrie-thanks for my cute denim dress! Mommy took me to the doctor and he says I am "perfect." Hehehe, my plan to get them all wrapped around my little finger is working!

Mommy would like you to know that I am 15 pounds, 2 ounces (30th percentile) and 26.5 inches long (75th percentile, but they were stretching me a bit). I also got a bunch of shots, including a flu shot, so we are hoping for none of that piggy flu around here.

I am sitting up on my own for longer and longer, pushing to my side to the point where Mommy thinks I may get to a sitting position by myself soon, and pushing up on my hands a lot. I really want to catch those kitties, so I may start crawling soon!

Finally, they are going to let me eat something other than my toys!

Mommy teased me a bit here, getting out the high chair, letting me sit with the fam for dinner in it, but still, NO FOOD!

Finally, some oatmeal! Yippee!

Mommy says I did really well with it. Didn't eat too much, but I was pretty into what I did eat. Unlike my big brother apparently. Although, he was very excited to help Mommy feed me!

BTW, the bib tasted good, too!

Mom says a few more days of oatmeal, then we'll try some veggies! Fun!

Delta Fair

I think fairs may be one of Ryan's favorite things right now. This is our third year attending the Delta Fair. There is no getting around going because we drive by it everyday on our way to school. First it was just seeing the banner hanging at the Agricenter (end of July). Then, the week before, the trucks started arriving and setting up rides. On those days, we would ride through the fairgrounds on our way home from school to check the progress. Then, finally, it was here! Unfortunately we were at the lake, then our second attempt to go fell through (you would have thought the workd was ending based on Ryan's reaction). Finally, our whole family went tonight!

I had been waiting for it, too, because this year, I entered a few things in the fair. They do not notify you if you win, you have to go check it out. Here's what I found:

My red velvet cake (my great-aunt's recipe, handed down to me from my mom) won second place! I am ecstatic! I do not consider myself a super cook, so to win in this category was great!

Here's third:

And first:

Not sure what any of them tasted like, but on appearance alone, I'd say the judge's did a good job. Plus, first place also won "Best of Show" which I think is out of all the cakes, so how could I top that? :)

With our gardening fun this year, it crossed our minds to enter some veggies. Don't think we could top this:

The photo I entered (Ryan with his strawberry) did not place, but my tagbook scrapbook won first place!

Now, I'm trying to figure what to enter next year! Ryan wants to, too!
Next it was on to food and rides.

And a show:

Ryan rode some more daring rides this year, including a kid version of the ride that drops you down, and a small roller coaster (with me).
