Old Friends

My best friend from high school, Jeanne, came to visit us. It's funny how it all came about...she had mentioned something on Facebook about seeing all the pandas in American zoos. She had seen 3 of the 4 (DC, Atlanta, and San Diego) and someone asked where the 4th was. I was quick to chime in that they were in Memphis and we'd love to have her come visit and see them!

So, Jeanne added us to her 2009 Summer Road trip and the rest is history (although, I should mention she said she was going to stay in a hotel and I said, no way. I guess we both feared it could be a bit awkward, but she was a great guest...going with the flow, hanging with the kiddos, making friends with my friends!).

We did go to the zoo to see Ya-ya and Le-le:

But we also enjoyed the Birds and Bees exhibit:

That night, it was girl's night out as Jennifer and Carrie joined us on Beale Street!

I think this was the most fun I've ever had hanging out on Beale (I've been pregnant at least 3 of the times we've gone out down there, if that tells you anything). We started outside at Silky O'Sullivan's.

Then after a stop at Rum Boogie (Eat. Drink. Boogie. Repeat.) and some funny sunglasses at a souvenir shop

it was over to B.B. King's for more fun and good music. There was this sign announcing the cover as we entered

to which we all said, "That's a really big 3." So, she added the smaller one at the bottom. :)

Carrie proved to be the most popular in our group (she is pretty hot, don't you think), and got to dance with this nice southern guy:

I asked Jeanne if I should save her and she replied only if Carrie gave us "the look." She eventually did, and I cut in. The guy looked to dance with me and I quickly told him I wanted to dance with Carrie!

So, here's to good friends!

The last day of her visit was kind of mellow. We were trying to get ready for our big road trip, so we skipped the planned Redbird's game, but we did go to the last swim day at Carrie's where Ryan jumped in with his friends, did some belly flops, and played with the noodle.

Overall, a great visit, and we hope she comes back again!

A day in Mississippi

Scott had a contact through work with some property down in northern Mississippi. When she heard Scott and Ryan liked fishing, she invited us down to fish with them. We had so much fun!

Jillian, fishing for the first time:

Elizabeth, Bill and their boys, William and Harris, were so kind to show us around. We fished and rode four wheelers around their property. Ryan rode with Scott, while Jillian and I rode in the Ranger with Elizabeth. The bumps put her to sleep!

Drive In Movie

It took us 6 years, but we finally went to the Summer Drive In for a movie. Our friends the Hollingsworths joined us to go see "Ice Age." We packed movie snacks, chairs, and bug spray and had a great time!
Ryan and Claire enjoying the movie:

It was a beautiful night for being outside. The kids had fun:

Touch a Truck

We saw a commercial for "Touch a Truck" at a local furniture store and since Scott was going out to golf, I thought it might be a fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Turns out, there was only 2 firetrucks and a police car there.
Ryan wasn't too interested. However, there was a moon bounce, and a SpongeBob moon bounce, at that, so it was not all lost!

Bouncing at the Mall

Our friends Melissa and Mason called us up to come try this bungy bouncing thing at the mall. Scott had a dinner meeting, so it was perfect timing! Here's Mason:

And Ryan:

Then we took the two crazy boys down to play in the play area:

And finally, it was off to Red Robin for dinner. Nice unexpected evening! Much better than the trip to the grocery store I had planned!

Ryan. In the deep end. Without a lifevest.

We are SO proud of him!

Big Tomato

Scott and Ryan picked this tonight...

After I took the picture, Scott asked if I had something in the photo to reference it's bigness? No, so I took these. And someone decided to ham it up.

Still more birthday!

Today we had Ryan's birthday party at the movies! Seventeen of his friends came to see Kung Fu Panda and have cake and ice cream with us.

We got a really cool cake from the Busy Bakery in Bartlett:

And Ryan received some new games and toys:

More Birthday

We celebrated Ryan's birthday again tonight at dinner. Our friend Barb came over for spaghetti and meatballs, and then cake and presents!

His big present from us? His very own soccer goal. Now he and daddy can practice any time they want!

Someone is...

Always fun to start your birthday with pancakes, candles and a few presents!

May all your wishes come true, baby boy!

4 months

Jillian turned 4 months on Saturday. She went to the doctor today and is 12 pounds, 14 ounces and 24 1/2 inches long! She got three shots and is now down for what could be a good long nap.

She also wants you to know she is ready to play poker

and eat paper!

Good times!

Picking Peaches

Are you, dear blog reader, tired of seeing us picking things this summer? I don't know what it is about getting out there and picking our own fruits and vegetables, but both Scott and I really enjoy doing it, and they taste oh, so good!

Picked these at Jones Orchard today. Then bought canning supplies and tried our hand at something we remember our moms doing when we were kids.
