While we were away...

...the boys had a busy weekend, too.

Thursday, Ryan spent the afternoon with his friend Mason. When Scott picked him up, Ryan, Scott, Doug and Mason all went out to dinner.

After spending the day with his favorite babysitter, Gretchen, on Friday, Ryan went to a Redbird's game with Scott, his business partner, Michael, Michael's kids, Jack and Holly, another business associate, Pat, Pat's wife and two boys. They all sat out on the bluff where the kids could run around and play. They said they had a great time.

Saturday, they mowed the yard, visited some of Scott's properties, and then decided to go camping!

They got a spot in Shelby Forest, had hot dogs and corn for dinner, s'mores for dessert, and popcorn when they watched Ratatouille on Scott's laptop.

Sunday morning, they had eggs and sausage for breakfast, took a hike, then went home. Went to see "Up" that afternoon and went fishing that evening.

Whew! What a weekend!

Meeting Family

The unexpected trip Jillian and I took to Maryland this week was for a sad reason. My great-uncle, who also happened to be my godfather, passed away on Wednesday. He was my grandmother's brother, so this was especially hard on her, having already lost my gradfather earlier this year. Here is Uncle Jack and Aunt Althea at my grandparent's anniversary party last November.

I have such fond memories of being with him and his family and we will miss him.

The upside of the trip is that Jillian got to meet many of her family members we hadn't planned on seeing until our trip in August.

Cousins, Matt & Rachel:

Aunt Marcy:

Uncle Mike:

Cousin Laura and Aunt Eileen:

Her great-grandmother, Mom-mom (in her new apartment!):

Cousin Brian:

Here are some other good shots from the trip.

Four generations:

Three girl cousins:

Look who's holding her head up so well!

Jillian had a few firsts today. Her first time on an airplane was a total success. She was fussy when we got on, but had a bottle, then fell asleep for the entire flight to Maryland (I think she liked the noise and vibration from the plane).

And this was her first time out of state. Most of you who know me, know that I collect states. I have been doing this for Ryan, too, and today, Jillian started her collection.

School's Out!

Here he is on the first day...

And the last...

And a few from the end of the year party the second to last day of school...

I am so excited for all he has done and learned this year. I love his teachers

and I am so pleased with our decision to send him to St. George's. Now if we can just continue to afford it, we'll be in great shape.

Fruits (and Vegetables) of our Labor

First, the fruit:

We will know Wednesday if the jam set up right, but at least it stayed in the pot this time!

Now the veggie:

The first peas from our garden (and Ryan with my new favorite photography trick!).

And a cute one of Jillian, just 'cuz I have it!

Pick Your Own

People have been asking me about picking strawberries, so here is the info. Check out Jones Orchard. They have locations for picking, as well as farm stands just south of 385 on Route 51 and on Singleton Parkway in Millington. They also planted strawberries this year at the Agricenter off of Farm Road (see the website for more details).

We have also picked blueberries (late June), nectarines, and peaches (late June-end of summer) from them. The peaches have been a favorite and we hope to can some this year!

Everything's Bigger in the South

We actually turned around to take a picture of this! Just how does one get this tire swing going?

We finally made it out to go strawberry picking! Scott and I LOVE to pick fresh fruits and vegetables. I was also excited because it was a little cloudy and I thought it'd be a great day to practice a little photography. Here's what we came up with...

I think the rows of strawberries make for an interesting backdrop.

I LOVE Cory's camera (Cory, I LOVE your camera!). Look how clear this shot is!

And this is what I have been dying to be able to do with a camera! LOVE it!

But there's more to the strawberry story. First, we ended up with almost 9 pounds of strawberries! We ate some for lunch, made milkshakes with a bunch, and then prepared to make strawberry jam.

Thought that it was funny when Scott got strawberry juice on the ceiling when it spurted out of the blender. Oh, that mess was nothing compared to what happened when I didn't watch the pot that the strawberry puree was boiling in. It boiled over all over the cooktop and onto the floor. Probably about 3-4 cups of liquid. Burned onto the burner that the pot had been on. More smoke than I have ever seen in our house. Took an hour to clean up. And we have no jam to show for it. And I will very publicly say that my husband is the best for doing the majority of the clean up, because Jillian chose that time to freak out and need to be held.

What else the camera can do

I can focus on the straw

or I can focus on the milkshake!

End of Soccer Season #3

We had our last game Tuesday night. I think we won, and I know Ryan scored a goal and had a few assists. Yeah, Rockets!

Here's Ryan and his buddy Jared.

We had dinner with our team at Johnny Brusco's Thursday night and everyone got their trophies.

We also found out that Coach Ken is going to coach again in the fall and we are hoping many of the boys will be back. We really liked the families we played with this spring and look forward to getting better as a team next fall!

Summer Checklist

Little girl taking her top off?

Check. (She is starting to get ahold of things which I think is cute. Even cuter, it's usually her shirt or skirt that she's getting ahold of and pulling up.)

Random Things in Our Lives

Saw Jillian's cousin, Logan, doing a little tummy time and thought it's about time that we give it a try:

And then we moved on to American Idol (got big plans for our girl!):

A photo of the kids:

Trying to eat her fist:

Hanging out on the hammock (notice Scott's new glasses?):

Someone's learning to swing on his own:

And someone else is loving on Bella:
