No internet, No baby

Just in case anyone was worried that baby had come since I have not blogged lately, she hasn't. Our internet went down this weekend. Scott couldn't fix it. The swapped out comcast modem didn't work. Next up is the Comcast dude tomorrow. I hope he can fix it. Who knew I'd miss it so much?

So, I will post more after it is running again. Main problem is that I am too lazy to get the pictures off of my home computer (where I store them all) and put them on one of our laptops. Scott's got an aircard and I could do it while at school on mine. But, like I said, I don't have the patience for that right now. Sorry.

Stay tuned.

And baby's still technically got two weeks.

Oh, and here's a funny tidbit if you are still reading at this point. Ryan and I went to a drive in type McDonald's today that had a juke box. He looked at it and asked if we could download a song. Ah, my modern boy!

Baby Shower

I was so excited to have my good girlfriend's from here in Memphis come over today to celebrate Baby Girl! My friends Heidi and Kellie hosted it and it was a lot of fun!

Kellie is an amazing cake baker and decorator. Here she is being Duff from "Ace of Cakes."

And the masterpiece she created (with a little help from our friend Rell):

Not only is it beautiful, it was yummy, too!

And, for the benefit of my mom, here I am opening some gifts:

Something from mom:

Bad picture of me, but I wanted you to see some of the handmade dresses I got. The first is from my friend Paula who has twin 4-year-old girls and makes cute things for them. I can't wait to follow suit! She also made me a cool holder for bows, as well as Baby Girl's frist two bows: one green and one in Memphis Tiger ribbons!

I also got a handmade dress from Kellie, who made a similar dress for her daughter, Ava. Can't wait to dress the girls alike.

Thanks everyone (especially Kellie and Heidi!!)!

Baby's Room

I had an easy week this week (students are taking exams and there is no math exam this trimester), so I spent a lot of time going through stuff. I wanted to get the baby's room presentable before my shower on Saturday.

The plan is to take down the kites that were the theme of Ryan's room, but leave the walls as blue skies with clouds, then hang up butterflies. I also found some butterfly bumpers on sale at Target.

There's still a few small things I'd like to do (new vallance, paint those drawer handles white, butterflies for the mobile), but she has clean clothes, a place to sleep and diapers, so I think we're good to go!

Rock Band

I cannot believe how much Scott has gotten into this! He has made it past the medium level, unlocking all the songs (except Vaseline, which we have to give Kellie credit for).

He has also been using the practice mode, and slowing it down seems to a good way to get Ryan to play it. Scott does the frets and Ryan strums.

Valentine's Day

The boys made me cinnamon rolls and eggs for breakfast and gave me a few gifts (books & candles). Then we all went out to register for baby gifts and lunch. Later, Ryan did his Valentine's Day scavenger hunt. This was a tradition my mom started with my sister and I. I like it because it's a fun, simple way to celebrate the day, without going too overboard.

I am trying to get him to do some of the reading himself:

Our next tradition is to get carry out Italian from somewhere and have a candlelit dinner at home, but this year I made stuffed shells. They were yummy!

Finally, Scott opened his gift, and we spent the rest of the evening playing with it:

Kite Flying

After Ryan and I tried to put up the little plastic pirate kite (and trashed it), we convinced Scott to come out and fly a real kite with Ryan. They got it up pretty high and added a few of our favorite wind socks.
Gramps- there is a kite festival in Collierville on March 14. Not sure I can go, but we can put it on the list of things you all might want to do together!

What's next, Locusts?

On Monday, Ryan and I were taking a walk and happened upon this around the corner from our house:

Not sure how the grass fire started, but it was dry and there were high winds. Our neighbors are lucky that it only got the grass, some of their fence and one of their AC units. The house was fine.

Then, today, Scott had to go deal with this:

In the high winds, one of the buildings at a facility they manage lost its roof! Peeled right off! He and his co-workers spent 2 days moving customers to new units. Thankfully, the rain stayed away and there wasn't more damage.

Donuts with Dad

St. George's hosted all the dads today with their "Donuts with Dad" day. Scott took Ryan to school and got to enjoy all the great treats Ryan made just for him:

A picture of Ryan (in a shirt and tie):

A painting of Scott:

I sent the camera with Scott, but it seems Ryan was the one who got to play with it. He wanted to be sure I saw the donuts:

And a little self-portrait:

New Room!

After much planning and talking about it, I am proud to say that Ryan slept in his new room last night! Scott and I got the shelf up and finished this weekend, and while the boys were out fishing, I moved Ryan's bed in.

We all are very pleased with the outcome (Ryan had a bit of trouble falling asleep, he was so excited), and now have a lot of re-organizing to do.

It is so cool to be using furniture that was created by my grandfather (not the one who just passed away). It was my sister's growing up, and I have been waiting for the day that one of us would use it for our kids. Thanks for letting me have it, Katy! It is 29 years old and still looks great!

BTW: the blue stripe under the shelf is the painter's tape and will be coming down after I do one more touch up on the shelf.

Stay tuned for Baby Girl's room!

With 60+ degree temperatures this weekend, the boys went out for their first fishing excursion of the year. OK, maybe excursion is too much of a word for it. They went across the street to a little pond.

They did catch a few things, though, and I don't think Scott expected to!

More grandfather rememberences...

I had a bit of trouble remembering lots of little details about my grandfather last week, not having family to sit around and remember with, but one came to me at Ryan's sibling class today.

Pop-pop had a polaroid camera. And whenever he took pictures with it, he told us the picture was magic and would do this little thing with his hand like he was pulling the picture out of the paper.

The nurse took a polaroid of Ryan, and I showed him how to do the magic.

Celebrating Siblings!

Today we went to a siblings class for Ryan at the hospital where I am going to deliver. It was a lot of fun for Ryan. Most things he had already heard, but it is nice to get them reinforced from a professional. This way, Mommy can say, "Remember the nurse said..."

Plus, Ryan got to do and see some things that will be important in a few weeks.

He created a Happy Birthday card for the baby:

He fed,

burped and diapered the baby:

Then we got ready for the tour:

He got to see where I will have the baby and where we will go after when he comes to visit. We also saw the babies in the nursery which he declared were, "So cute."

Feeling more ready!

Baby Girl Update

After discovering Baby Girl was head up still at my 33 week appointment, my doctor scheduled me for an ultrasound at the 35 week appointment. Ryan, Scott, and I went around for two weeks telling Baby Girl to turn around.

Here she is at 35 weeks:

She is now head down, hooray! We also found out she is 6 lbs 2 oz (in my opinion, perfectly ready to come out, right?), and on track for a March 11 due date!

She did not want to show her face very well today, you can see her forhead in the right side of the picture, her hand in front of her nouth and her belly on the left side.

Stay tuned!

Weekend at the Lake

Since my doctor wouldn't let me travel to Maryland for my grandfather's funeral, we got away for some peace, quiet and reflection in Arkansas instead.

It was very mild up there (how lucky am I to get two mild weekends in the winter?), so we took a few walks:

Saw this (deer track, although Ryan was disappointed to not see any actual deer):

and two of these:

Played with Harley:

And enjoyed time with our hosts:

Thinking that now that the baby is about a month away, I want to focus on us as three before we become four:

Played some football (there was a big game on afterall):

and Tickles and Tackles (well they were playing it, faking asleep here):

And on the way home, we found another big chair!
