Friday Night Lights!

It was the annual "Battle of the Levee" where St. George's plays Briarcrest (our rival from about 2 miles up Houston Levee Road). We have beat them all three of the past years that we have had a varsity football program.

So Ryan and I went with some friends early to tailgate, then in to see the game.

I did not take many pictures (missed getting some of Ryan and his buddies McKinley & Kagan inside the game), but here is Ryan playing football with Mr. Kourvelas (who came to tailgate with us):

And Ian, Aiden (attending his first football game), and Heidi at the tailgate:

Oh, yeah. Unfortunately we lost pretty bad. 7-42. Good thing we had so much fun with our friends! :)

First Work

On the first day of school the kids were asked to draw a picture of their first day. Ryan loves arts and crafts, but doesn't always draw as much as I'd like him to. He came out that first day and told me he had drawn a picture of us on the swings. He had wanted to bring it home, but Mrs. Lawo wanted it for a display at school. So the next day, he drew another, telling me Mrs. Lawo had shown him how to draw swings (I was surprised as I had never seen him draw swings before). Many more swing drawings have followed!

Parker's Birthday Party!

Pirate treasure hunts seem to be very popular with 3- and 4-year-old boys this summer. In addition to playing in the pools and fidhing at Parker's great-grandparent's house, we were treated to a treasure hunt. Aaaargh!

Happy Birthday Parker!

That's a BIG mushroom!

Plucked from our front yard this morning!

Another day, another trip to the zoo...

But today we caught a butterfly (actually, it was a slow moving one that was sitting on the ground and allowed herself to be picked up gently):

And we went with Helen:

We did ride on the merry-go-round again:

First Days

Today was Ryan's first day to go by himself! Here's a standard "first day of school" photo.

These are the hats they made today:

The lower school teachers are super about posting pictures on their websites! Check out more photos here.

First Day of School!

Ryan's first day of Pre-Kindergarten was today at St. George's! It was an open house, where families were assigned 45 minute blocks to bring students in so they could meet the teachers and see the classrooms without feeling overwhelmed.

Ryan has been in before, met some of his classmates, and both his teachers, so he was not nervous, only excited. Here he is with Mrs. Lawo and Mrs. Robinson.

Tomorrow and Wednesday only half the class goes for half day (Ryan's day is tomorrow), then the whole class does half days Thursday and Friday. Next week, we start our regular three-half, two-full days.

Rain!

It seems like it has been awhile since we've gotten a good rain. Today it stormed, and then continued to rain all afternoon. Of course, we had to go jump in puddles

and check out the drainage ditch

and the lake.

It's now back up to the true edge! Hopefully it will make for good fishing!

The Zoo

This week my friends at St. George's went back to school for inservice week. It's a little bittersweet for me, as this is only the second time since I was five-years-old that I have not gone back as well. Ryan starts next week, and, if the past two weeks are any representation of the amount of tutoring I will have during the school year, I will be busy tutoring while he is at school, but it is not exactly the same.

I was a bit nervous about what Ryan and I would do this week without all the friends we have been playing with all summer, so I told my friend, Emmy, to leave Parker with us one day instead of taking him to Little Georgies.

We had a great time! We had pancakes for breakfast, went to the zoo, and I got both boys to take a nap (a feat I am very proud of because I did not think I was going to be able to do it!). Then it was off to Stevi B's for dinner and to help Mr. Ray film his TV commercial. Stay tuned to see if Ryan is a star!

I got a lot of good shots of the boys at the zoo:

The last two are my favorites.

Stanky Creek

Ryan and I haven't been out to hike at Stanky Creek in a long while, but it's cooled off some here in Memphis, so we went out today.

What was I thinking?

I pulled this out of my freezer today to make chicken pot pie. I don't think I looked at the brand when I bought it, just that it was mixed veggies, and probably inexpensive. Hope it tastes ok.

Popsicle Party

St. George's hosted a popsicle party for all the Pre-kindergarteners today. There were only 4 other kids from Ryan's class were there, but it was great to start making those connections. Ryan was a bit of a grump at first, but he finally warmed up and even climbed this climbing wall by himself!

Redbird's Game

I haven't been to a Redbird's game in over a year, maybe two, so it was great to go out Saturday night for one. It was just me, Scott, and Ryan, but our friends Heidi, Ian, Aiden, Jonathan, Celia, and Elijah were there, too! And it turns out their seats were one section over from ours.

Luckily, it's finally cooling a bit here in Memphis, and Saturday night was great! We lost, but that didn't put a damper on the spirited Elvis fireworks that followed.

Build a fort with blankets

Ryan and I had fun with this on Wednesday:

Our Anniversary

Before Scott went away, we celebrated at the same restaurant where we celebrated for our 5th anniversary (3 days after moving to Memphis): Jin's Place East. Yummy food and great service. Highly recommend for a fancy, celebration (read: pricey) dinner.

And while Scott was gone I got these:

I'm a lucky girl!

Another day, another swim date

Monday we swam with Arlan, Tuesday we swam with Henry, Parker, Lila, Oliver, and Gabriel. It's almost the only way to do anything outside here these days!

Weekend in Vegas

Scott spent the weekend with a bunch of his college friends for a bachelor party in Las Vegas. He and his buddies Mark and Shane went out early to take advantage of some other things in the area. First stop, the Grand Canyon. They spent Thursday there and traveled over the Hoover Dam to get back to Vegas on Friday.

As hot as it was in Memphis last week, we got nothing on the southwest:

As soon as Mark and Shane send along some actual Vegas pictures, I'll post them so you can see the rest of Scott's adventure.

Ten years ago today...

The church as it was is not there anymore, but we are still going strong. Thanks, honey, for ten amazing years!
