We're getting closer...

We went to the mall and were excited to see the Easter Bunny has arrived. There was no line, so we went up and said hello. Ryan wanted to be sure to tell him not to come in his room when he visited because that would wake him up. We still didn't sit on his lap, but we did give him a high five and a hug. Getting closer!

Not all about Ryan

This blog is supposed to be for all of us, but it seems to be heavily weighted in the Ryan direction.

So, to mix it up a little, I offer you two websites to check out. Both show the power and creativity that blogs have in today's society (just this week I was trying to think of a crazy blog I could create that would go "viral").

The first is cool, but not very big yet. I am hoping to someday see the pictures from the camera my father in law had stolen in Atlanta years ago.

The second could be offensive, so be warned! There is some nudity, bad language, and just some crazy stuff. It has been the source of art exhibits and the background in the All-American Rejects video for "Dirty Little Secret." It's updated every Sunday (I think) and I just find it cool and maybe a little voyeuristic (but aren't all blogs that way?).

Look what I can do!

Ryan has been getting tired of waiting for Mommy and Daddy to get his milk, so he's been getting it himself. He brings his little chair over and can reach the counter. The other morning when the cap was too tight and he couldn't get either of us out of bed, he got this out of the drawer and did it himself!

Chuck E. Cheese's

I have never actually been to this place. I guess there was a fear of exposing my kid to all kinds of germs or hypodermic needles in the ball pit. Turns out, they don't even have a ball pit! Just lots of token games and a big set of tubes to climb through up in the air with a slide. We did still wash our hands after!

So, with Scott out of town, and Ryan's friend Kate's daddy also traveling, we got together and gave the kids some play time!

Here's Ryan (notice the party hat left over from Ms. Laurie's birthday party at school).

And here they are together.

Diego at the Zoo

We went to the zoo on our day off on Monday, specifically to see Diego. As soon as we got in line, Ryan decided he did not want to go up to Diego, high-five Diego, or get his picture taken with Diego. So here is Diego without Ryan:

Then on the way out, we passed by him again and this time had enough courage to high-five him and say, "Hola!"

In between, we went to check out our favorite animals. The Pandas were eating bamboo, the monkeys were not out, and the polar bears were sleeping. On the walk to the polar bears there are these great big logs lining the walkway and every time we go, Ryan gets up on them, walks along and jumps off. A few years ago, he needed help up, needed a hand to hold while walking and a hand or two to hold while jumping.

Now, he can get up on almost all the logs, walk well by himself, and jump (this seems like such a high jump to me!):

We were also excited to spend the day there with Mason and Miss Melissa! Had a fun picnic!

Clean & Organized

Those who know me well, know I like to organize and I like being organized. It's kind of like a zen thing for me, I feel peaceful and happy when everything is in a place.

In my effort to rid my living space of the mountain of toys we have acquired in the last 3 years, we bought Ryan this shelf from Target yesterday (FYI: it and the fabric drawers are on sale this week...the Wofchase location was out of this shelf in white, but Super Target had it!). We carefully went through his toys, threw away a bunch of stuff, put away some other stuff and organized evrything else. So his room now looks like this:

And Momma is happy!

"Mommy, show me how to do math."

"I mean, show me how to do homework."

Think he'll be this eager 10 years from now?

Passing Along VDay Traditions

When my sister and I were growing up, my mom would do scavenger hunts for us on Valentine's Day. I figured Ryan might really get into it, so I made a bunch of clues on hearts for him to follow.

This one was "Where we make Ryan's waffles."

We read them to him once he found them. Didn't think of this, but maybe next year I can put picture clues on the hearts, so he can figure them out all by himself. Hmmm.

Indigo Girls, Take 2

We had an awesome time. It was a pretty mellow concert (not as much sing along as I am used to at and Indigo Girl's show) and I can't decide if it is because we were in a small, sit-down type venue, or if it because we were in a venue that did not serve alcohol. Regardless, good show, glad they came back!

First Trip to the Dentist!

I probably should have taken him before now, but until this past summer, visits to people like the doctor and the hair salon were tearful ordeals. I did NOT think the dentist chair was going to be a fun place for my son!

First, Miss Kristi talked to Ryan about cleaning his teach and tried to take "pictures" of them. He didn't like that, but he did let her clean them.

Then, Miss Jennifer "counted" his teeth. After this, Ryan did let her take pictures. We got to see his big boy teeth hiding under his little teeth!

Finally, Dr. Josh checked him out.

We got a good report! No cavities, and a happy boy, who at the end got to pick a toy from the toy wall!

Funny Face

Ryan seemed completely shocked to find out that shampoo tasted yucky! The original face (before I ran to get my camera) was priceless! This face is a little sillier.

Playground

Taking advantage of slightly warmer weather this weekend. We met the Johnson's at the playground. Ryan and Noah had fun chasing each other and playing pirates and jail.

New Blog!

I am starting a blog to post creative projects. Scrapbook pages, cards, crafts, etc. You can find it here. If you're just checking in to see what we're up to, don't feel that you have to check that one, it's just for fun and a little silly!

Ocassionally the stars align...

Ryan had on a cute outfit (although he changed before we left for school) and happened upon a good patch of light coming in my back bedroom window. AND I talked him into taking some pictures. Here's what we got:

Some are a bit fuzzy. I wonder how Abbie's new camera would have done? :)

Super Fat Tuesday

So, we were supposed to spend the evening watching election returns, and instead we spent it watching the special weather reports as tornadoes descended upon the Memphis area this afternoon. Scarey stuff. Scott took off early to go vote with Ryan and I and we all got home just in time to hear the tornado sirens, discover that we were now under a tornado warning, and hear that one had supposedly been spotted just down the street, a few miles away! I hauled the futon mattress off the couch and we gathered near the interior bathroom. The first cell passed, setting off a tornado just northeast of us, and we waited for the second cell.

The sun even came out for a bit. The second one was coming from northern Mississippi. People reported a tornado on the MS/TN border, at the airport and later we heard of damage at a mall southest of Memphis. One TV station had video of it from a camera they have atop a building near Germantown. The track again went east of us and we are relaxing a bit now. There's still a line to our west closing in, so keep us in your prayers tonight.

After the storms had passed, we celebrated Fat Tuesday as Scott and I have done for years...with pancakes! More fun when you have a 3-year-old who insists upon Mickey Mouse pancakes!

With a little encouragement...

Cory commented that she would love to see more scrapping things posted here, so I feel I should oblige. Here's a page I did about Ryan:

"I might even be a rock star."

Or a rocket scientist. Ryan was very excited about this poster/ad in the paper:

I was very excited that he "read" the top of the ad where it says "Wal-Mart." OK, maybe not a rocket scientist yet, maybe just word recognition, but still!

What did you do this weekend?

We spent the weekend in Arkansas looking at houses. We have it narrowed down to two, so by summer we should be partying at the lake!

There was a little leftover snow there:

We stopped at a lake that is apparently a popular winter home for geese. They were beautiful, but as for my family, we are just silly-looking!

Ryan's good follow through:

Mommy, dry my hair

BTW, he has been going to bed better. Thanks for all the well wishes on that one!
