The best concert we didn't get to go to...

Carrie, Ian, Heidi and I were supposed to go see Indigo Girls tonight. Unfortunately, we found this at the theatre:

Why are we smiling? At least they postponed for February 13. Stay tuned!

Cry it Out, the Sequel

We did this once before, a long time ago. Let Ryan cry in his crib (though it never took real long) back when he was 6 months old.

Having to try something like it again. Only now, he can climb out of his bed and do things like this:

The 2 hours it took to get him to sleep last night was payback for the wonderful 2 1/2 nap he took for me yesterday afternoon (that was heavenly!). After taking a bath, getting pj's on, brushing teeth, saying goodnight, reading books, turning out the light, saying our prayers, and snuggling for a few minutes, I tried to leave which led to an hour long tantrum. He tried everything- I have to pee, I have to poop, I have to throw up- and I stood there and held his door closed. Finally he took his diaper off (he's only wearing one at bedtime now), and I knew he couldn't put a new one on, so I let him out, he didn't have to poop, I out a new diaper on and sat on his bed for about 10 minutes until he fell asleep. Ugh.

Scott reports that tonight went better. Cross your fingers that this phase is over QUICK!

Product of a Scrapbooking Weekend

As I said, I got 27 pages done that weekend, and I do not post many scrapping things here, but I thought, what the heck. This way some of my scrapping friends who weren't on the weekend (Cory, Jennifer, Abbie, Paula, Kirsten, Marsha...) can see what I've been up to. I may post a bit more scrappy stuff in the future. Or maybe I should create a second blog just for that creative stuff like my friend Jennifer.

So, this is one of my favorite layouts, primarily because I want to use my patterned paper in new and different ways, and I really like this. I am using Creative Memories Mod Power Palette for my 2007 album (I used the Cabana Palette for 2006). I really like doing this because it limits the products I have to choose from a bit (I still use other products-like the thickers letter stickers-too, but primarily the power palette) so I have fewer choices to make and GET MORE DONE! I highly recommend these (not just because I sell them *grin*).

BTW: that is me getting a toilet flushed on my head in the top right. Instead of a dunk tank, teachers sat in a flush tank. The things we'll do to raise money for our schools!

Sunday Laughter

On Sunday morning in Mobile, the sun came out, the temperature rose, and Scott's fever broke. All in time for us to leave. We did get to enjoy a few more hours of fun. I would post a video so you could hear everyone laughing...scratch that...cackling, but a certain someone says, "I have to go to the bathroom" on the video, so out of respect for her, I will not post the video. Instead, look at the not-so-good photo below and take notice of the two ladies laughing on either side of the table:

We were playing "bolleyball," as Ryan calls it, with balloons. What's so funny about that, you ask? Check out this photo:

Always a good time at Aunt Sandy's! Thanks, Aunt Sandy & Uncle Kirk!

Mardi Gras Parade

One of our goals for the weekend was to see a Mardi Gras parade. Didn't get to do it Friday night because of cold rain. Saturday afternoon, we were all set to go and then the rain started again. When we heard the marching bands, we decided to brave it. Ryan was so excited about going. He gathered bags and bottles of water for everyone:

And Ryan sorting our haul:

Greetings from Mobile!

Spent the weekend at my Aunt and Uncle's in Mobile. We have been talking about coming down for Mardi Gras for years now, and with news that they are going to soon be moving back to San Diego, we figured we should make it happen this year. They tell me Mardi Gras had it's start in Mobile, and it is much more family friendly here. Although, men on floats throwing things at my 3-year old son doesn't seem very family friendly to me.

Ryan is having a great time with his friend, Aunt Sandy.

This next picture does not do justice to the amount of laughter and shrieking that was going on as we chased each other about the house tickling everyone.

Ryan and Gramps scheming about who was going to be tickled next.

And poor Scott has spent most of the weekend in bed with the flu.

Thank goodness for washable markers

After baking cookies for Uncle Larry, we needed to make a card. Ryan decided to color his hands.

Weekend

This weekend I went east to Nashville with my girlfriends to scrapbook and Scott and Ryan went west to Arkansas to look at potential vacation houses. A great weekend was had by all!

I have a knack for picking odd houses for us to have scrapping weekends in. The place in Pickwick smelled (but that was really the paper mills in Pickwick, not the house), the place in Mississippi smelled of moth balls, had bad beds, and wasps. This place had the "Porno Room," a bedroom in the basement with mirrors on the ceiling.

It did have good scrapping space, though and didn't smell. And I got 27 pages done...well into 2007!

Glad we could help...

I knew Maryland and #1 UNC were playing this weekend, but I wasn't really paying attention. It's easy to lose track being so far away and being in a place where you can't always see the games. Plus, Scott and I weren't even home to pay attention. So when my Memphis friend, Paula, called and said Maryland had beaten #1 UNC, at UNC, I was astounded!

And the implications are much greater than just my favorite unranked team beating no-longer-#1 UNC. Our adopted local team, Univeristy of Memphis, just happens to be #2. Around here, we've been watching closely as UNC almost lost to Clemson, then Georgia Tech. But it was Maryland who finally knocked them off, leaving Memphis to take the #1 spot. So glad we could do it for them!

Go Terps! Go Tigers!

River Kings!

We went to a Mississippi River King's hockey game Saturday night with Matt, Michael and Jack. Uncle Matt got Ryan and Jack stuffed macots (Sheldon and Thing) to take home! Thanks Uncle Matt!

As he grows...

So, you put in all those safety things when your little one becomes mobile. Outlet covers, drawer and cabinet stops. And you know what? Ryan never really tested them. I know some kids really need them, but Ryan didn't test it.

Until now. Now we really need them because he is exploring and into everything.

But, the drawer and cabinet stops won't help us anymore. Today, he figured them out.

"Mommy, look what I can I do!"

And then he actually took a nap there!

Grand Opening

Although Midtown Vault Self Storage has been open for awhile, the Chamber of Commerce sometimes takes awhile to come out for a ribbon cutting.
Scott with the really big scissors.

Ryan, thoroughly enjoying the Grand Opening cake.

Rainy Day

We had a little rain today. OK, a lot of rain. I've never seen the drainage area across the street so full:

And, since it was kind of warm, we went out to jump in puddles, one of Ryan's favorite things to do.

Ryanism of the day

Mommy: Ryan, don't jump on the couch.

A few minutes later...

Ryan: I have to jump when I'm singing.

Netflix, anyone?

My wonderful sister got Scott a subscription to netflix for Christmas. We have seen three movies now (Waitress, Happy Feet, and Pursuit of Happyness) and are on the lookout for movie suggestions. So become our friend on netflix by going here.

Thanks!

Just one of the things we did on this chilly, drizzly Saturday morning.

Happy Birthday Rachel!

Our niece turns 8 today! We got to celebrate with her before we left Maryland. Happy Birthday Rachel!
