Horseback Riding

Ryan and his cousin Rachel rode ponies this afternoon. They both reported that it was the "Best day ever!"

Rachel rode on Bella, and Ryan rode on Fireball.

More Birthdays!

Happy Birthday Dad! Ryan wants to know what kind of moon bounce you got for your birthday.

And Happy 40th to Gene!

Fun at the Hanlon's!

We got to play in the pool at the Hanlon's new house this weekend. The house is going to be great for them (once Kellie gets rid of the "dirtiest kitchen in Germantown") and the backyard already is!
Ryan and Daddy.

Arlan and his uncle.

Ava and her Granny.

One more party

Look what "the man" brought for our backyard. Ryan spent all day in it.

An ice cream cake this time (are we getting tired of Thomas yet?).

And this one's for you mom! Look what we finally remembered to have Kellie do:

Another Party

Had some of our friends over for pizza and pool fun. Couldn't get all the kids on the couch at the same time, but here's a few:

Hey, it's good to be back home again...

This was the scene in our backyard last night after we returned home. Scott was watering the outside plants (although, apparently we finally had some decent rain while we were gone!) and Ryan, who usually wants nothing to do with water sprinkling on his head, got wet!

Today, we had Ryan's 3-year check-up and he did GREAT! You need to know that although he is normally a totally happy, easy-going kid, doctors (along with hair stylists) have not been his thing. And if that's the trade off for a kid who is happy, easy-going, sleeps and eats well, I'll take it.

But we seem to have turned a corner. He did not cry at all or need to be held down while Dr. Owen checked him over! He answered all the questions, let him look in his eyes, ears, and mouth (stuck out his toungue and said "Ah."). Peed in a cup and got his blood pressure taken for the first time (man, am I glad he played doctor with his cousins Matt and Rachel on this last trip...they did the fake blood pressure thing. Thanks Matt and Rachel!).

The only bad parts were the sneaky (read: talented) nurse who came in all chatty and snuck up to prick Ryan's thumb for a blood sample, then quickly pulled out Thomas (how did she know?) stickers to make it all better. Then the nurse came back for one shot, but she had lollipops, so those tears quickly subsided as well.

At three, Ryan in 37 inches tall (25-50 percentile), 31 pounds (just under 50 percentile) and in good health! A little small, but nothing to worry about Dr. Owen said. And based on Mommy and Daddy's heights, he predicts he'll be somewhere between 5 foot 10 inches (Daddy's height) and 6 feet 2 inches (Mommy's height plus 5 inches). He could be taller than Scott!

Day 19

Boring blog. Left Morganton, NC at 9 am. Just mountains...

And one final tunnel...

The time change at around noon. And lots of "driving down highway 40 in our big ol' pick-up truck." OK, so it's a minivan. I can't help how the song goes.

Thanks to all of you who put us up, we had so much fun with everyone! And we are so excited that we are going to see most of you all again in two weeks, three weeks, or in October! Love you!!!

19 days,

7 states,

over 3000 miles,

and we are home!

Day 18

An excellent final morning in Ocean City began with breakfast at Breakfast Bill's (although no Mickey Mouse pancakes for Ryan-sorry Grandad!). Then the boys went out to hit golf balls (Ryan's first time) while I got things ready to go. Scott said he did as well as a three-year-old who's never been to the driving range before can do. Said he was pretty patient.

At noon we began the journey home. One more toll:

A few bridges:

And two tunnels:

This time I wasn't driving and taking the pictures! Good to be the passenger! Got to get way into my latest book! Spending the night in North Carolina, and ready to get home tomorrow!

Happy Birthday Ryan!

Our little boy turns three today! Watch this.

Day 17

The Birthday Boy spent the early part of the day on the beach!

He went in with us, then we were able to get him to stand in the shallow area and jump the little waves that came in!

We stopped by a field of sunflowers that I'd been eyeing all week for some pictures.

Then we went out to Macky's for dinner with all Ryan's grandparents!

Day 16

More golf for Scott today. Grammy and Ryan and I explored the town of Berlin. Quaint town full of fun shops! Highly recommend the side trip from OC if you have time. When the woman at the Corner Cupboard found out Ryan's birthday was tomorrow, she gave him this new stuffed dog, which we named Berlin.

Later, Ryan stayed home with Grammy and Grandad so Mommy and Daddy could go on a date! We went to the Lighthouse Sound for dinner, then explored some of our olf haunts around Ocean City. One of these days we're going to come around and find that the Atlantic Court (where I lived the summer of 1994 when Scott and I first started dating) has been taken down for some bigger condos.

Back at Grammy's, Ryan rode horses (went to see them too at Ocean Downs!),

shot off his helicopter,

with GG, too!

And Grammy showed us her talents with producing bubbles!

Thanks for the pictures, Grandad!

Day 15

Aunt Sandy and Uncle Kirk, Mom-mom and Pop-pop, Sarah and Jason, and Katy all left for home today. Sad to see them go, but we will see some of them next month! Mom & Dad are still around.

Scott played golf this morning, so Ryan and I rode bikes on the boardwalk, then met Grammy at her pool. Ryan jumped in and went under!

Later that evening we went to the boardwalk for Thrasher's fries, Fisher's popcorn, and Dumser's ice cream. Yummy! Ryan and I rode the Giant Wheel.

Day 14

More beach. We got Ryan in the water for longer today. At first he didn't want to, but then we told him we were beating up, bopping, and kicking the waves. Then it became a game, and he loved it! We were able to carry him all the way out to a sand bar. The waves were great! Even after he went in, we stayed out with Katy and Jason to ride the waves.

Then Sarah and Katy got him down to the water again to jump the little incoming waves!

Love this picture of Grammy, Scott, Ryan, and Grandad.

Then it was an evening at Grammy and Grandad's house to celebrate Ryan's birthday! Look at what we built!

Day 13

Beach! We hit the beach today after jogging and bike riding on the boardwalk. Ryan got in the water with Scott, but didn't last long. He and Aunt Sandy stayed at the water's edge to build a wall.

Then we all buried Scott.

My favorite picture is our group shot...notice the cute guy in the bottom right corner?

Then we buried Ryan.

And Gramps brought Ryan's kite to the beach (one of the few things Mommy forgot to bring). They flew it together for awhile.

That evening we went to Fager's Island where they play the 1812 Overture so that it finishes just as the sunset. Unfortunately, it was too hazy to see the sunset. We did celebrate Mom's birthday because Mom-mom won't see her again before she turns 60 in August.

Day 12

We had breakfast with Nanny and Gramps, then went to visit some friends, Jason and Debbie, at their new home in Annapolis. Zoe and Ketzel shared their slide with Ryan, and the whole Barbour family posed for a picture.

Then it was off to the beach! Another bridge; this one over the Chesapeake Bay.

And we picked Daddy up at the little Salisbury airport. He made the connection in Philadelphia, but his bag did not. They brought it to the house at about 10:30 pm. We are SO glad to have him back with us!!

Once we got to Grammy and Grandad's house, we went to historic Berlin, MD for dinner and to hear Grammy sing with her Sweet Adelines. They even sang "Happy Birthday" to Ryan!

Day 11

The day started with a little dancing at the Sprouse's. All six of us were dancing around Rachel's room. "Get up everybody," Ryan said.

Then it was down to St. Louis Church for my cousin Jennifer's wedding. Don't she and Jonathan look wonderful?

Ryan and I posed in front of the beautiful stained glass windows. They recently built a new church here and Msgr. Luca got the old windows from the Basilica in downtown Baltimore to put in the new St. Louis Church.

And here's most of the Roth family (missing are Scott, Kirk & Elizabeth...we missed you guys!).
