Notice anything different?

Now, those of you new to the blogging world might not even notice the change at the top of the page. It's been something I've wanted to do for awhile, but not known how to. It's called a header, and I now know how to make one. Actually, I know how to load one. I need to play with Photoshop a whole lot more before I can make a really good one. Which is what I hope to do eventually. For now, this little tribute to the MD flag will suffice to set my little blog apart from others with the same template in the blogosphere.

Enjoy!

Asheville, Part 2

What a fun day! Blueberry pancakes for breakfast, hitting golf balls and throwing sticks off the bridge next to our cabin with Mark and Shelby, and Ryan's first experience with honeysuckle (there's a a whole fenceful of it next to our cabin and it is so aromatic right now!).

Then we went back to the Biltmore to tour their farm,

taste some wines (yum!), and check out their amazing gardens (where they have over 2,000 roses!).

There, I got my favorite picture of the trip when the boys decided to climb a tree.

At the end of the day, we met up with Nanny and Gramps, who drove up from Charlotte. Nanny got Ryan to take off his shoes and put is feet in the water!

Asheville, Part 1

I'm pretty sure there's more to come, so this will serve as part 1. Yesterday, we went to the Biltmore (probably the most famous attraction in Asheville). It is the largest, privately owned residence in America. 255 rooms, 8,000 acres! Amazing! We're going back today to view the gardens and other places on the property.

Last night, Scott & Mark made pina coladas outside so as not to wake up Ryan.

Good times!

We're Expecting!

Not us, but the city of Memphis! Seems the artificial insemination worked and Ya-ya has a baby in her belly. Read all about it here.
And I'm sorry if we gave anyone a shock with the title. Scott said I shouldn't do it, but I couldn't resist! Would we really tell all the important people in our life we were expecting over a blog? I like blogs and everything, but I'm not that bad!! :)

Hats off!

OK, so it's been a little while. This is what I've been busy doing:

This past weekend was baccalaureate and graduation for our seniors. Followed by reviews and exams for the rest of our students, followed by Stepping Up for the eighth graders, followed by closing things out for us teachers. And Scott was sick, then away, and we're leaving for a trip tomorrow.

I know, poor me. It's just busy is all I'm saying. Probably my most busiest time of year. Every job has one. The closing and opening of school are probably the craziest.

It's been fun though, and we're leaving tomorrow for a weekend trip to Asheville, NC to meet some friends, so that should be just the break we all need! And it guarantees more posts and pictures for all you readers out there! Stay tuned!

Ryan and Ava

Mr. Chris and Baby Ava came over last night for dinner. My little man was trying to get some of the attention I was showering on Ava. He was even willing to pose for pictures!

Only You

Did anyone else notice the JCPenney Mother's Day commercial? The commercial was emotional enough by itself, but that song...oh, it brought back memories. It's "Only You" and I don't know who did it originally, but I found an acapella version on one of my mix tapes (can't throw them away, but someday won't have a tape recorder to play them on) from 1994!

Ah! 1994. Scott reminded me that it was 13 years ago on May 14, 1994 that he and I wandered up onto the roof of the FSK building at UMCP. Which led to letters and visits to Ocean City where I was working over the summer, which led to 4 years of dating, and almost 9 years of marriage. Also, one adorable son. Which brings me back to the song. It amazes me how so many love songs that were dear to me as I was falling in love with Scott have taken on new meaning in terms of a mother's love. I had forgotten about this song until I saw that commercial and "Only You" falls into that category.

Check out one version here by Joshua Radin. Click on tracks and scroll down to hear a clip. It's on itunes if you want a copy. My favorite is the itunes live version.

Happy Mother's Day!

A bit late, but cute pictures to share.

Ryan let me sleep in, Scott made me breakfast in bed, and then they both bought me a rose at church. We went to a nursery and bought more flowers and things for our yard. Chilled out at home, went for a walk in the woods right around the corner at Stanky Creek, and had a yummy dinner.

Ducks?

No, we're not in a park. There's no pond nearby. We were simply having dinner at our friend's Matt & Barb's house and we had the lovely opportunity to feed some ducks. Who'd have thought?

Biking to the park

We got some new bikes from my parents, switched Ryan's bike seat over to them, and we've been taking family rides to a nearby park. Good exercise. Ryan loves the ride and loves the destination.

Staying busy around here with end of the school year stuff. Two more weeks! Then there's sure to be lots more pictures from our summer adventures!
