Bel Air

The next stop on the trip was Scott's sister's in Bel Air. We celebrated Christmas with them and got to watch the Redskins beat the Cowboys and make it into the playoffs! Nothing like singing "Hail to the Redskins" with fellow 'Skins fans!

Christmas Party

We are so blessed to be able to get together with our friends from college a few times a year. Someone back east is always kind enough to host a holiday bash, and we all gather together. This year it was Jason and Debbie. It was great to see everyone and their kids, plus catch up with some recently married folks, and some who will be getting married this fall!

Something Funny to Read until I download Pictures

On a recent driving trip to look at Christmas lights:

Us (singing): When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that's amore.

Ryan (singing): That's Bella.

(and for those of you wondering what the joke is, we have two cats, Amore and Bella. Ha ha.)

Our own little Family Tradition

We baked and distributed cookies to the Bartlett Firefighters again this year (and as my friend Lisa says, when you do something twice, it becomes a tradition). Ryan was more into delivering the cookies, but still a bit hesitant in getting in to the trucks.

More lights

It is so great to have family in town. The fun times, the good food, the free babysitters. Mom, Dad and Katy kept Ryan for Scott and I while we traveled to Nashville. Some of Scott's properties had their holiday gathering at a Nashville Predators hockey game. It was very fun! The Predators broke a losing streak and won and the captain had a hat trick!

That night we stayed at the beautiful Opryland Hotel. I may have said this before, but if you ever have the opportunity to check this place out, do. Even if you don't stay, you can wander through their beautiful gardens. At Christmas, it's even better as they plant thousands of holiday flowers and light everything up.

We slept in late Sunday morning, and then had breakfast at my favorite pancake place, Noshville's and headed home.

I didn't really think it could do that!

The ultimate revenge. Post a funny story about my husband on this blog.

This is a "Crop-o-dile."

I borrowed it from my friend Jennifer because I am too cheap to buy one yet, but I had some thick things to punch holes through. As a few of us sat upstairs, Scott picked it up, incredulous at yet another scrapping tool. I assured him he would like this one.

"Remember all those ornaments we have drilled tiny holes through?" I asked him. "This could have punched the hole in one easy motion without cracking the wood like we did sometimes."

Next thing I know, he's done this:

This ornament was sitting upstairs waiting to get a new piece of string from which to hang it. It was made by my mom, probably in 1996, the year I got my first teaching job. She makes me an ornament every year (as many of you know). The hole in the middle is the one she put in many years ago. The one on the top right is the one Scott put in, apparently not believing me that the Crop-o-dile could, in fact punch through wood.

Zoo Lights

We went to Zoo Lights at the Memphis Zoo with our friends the Meeks and the Winsteads (parents to Ryan's friends Mason and Kate). This was the sight when we walked in, complete with bubble snow:

All three kids decorated and ate cookies:

Rode around in the wagon (Jennifer has a better picture of this, and, for those of you who are zoo members, watch for a picture in the zoo magazine sometime this spring!):

And here are some of the lights:

Couldn't get Ryan to sit on Santa's lap, even after Mason did and Mommy had her picture taken with him:

And finally, we danced with the Panda:

Fun evening!

Christmas @ St. George's

Santa came to have breakfast with the seniors on Monday, then he came to party with the juniors on Wednesday.

Here he is with a few of us junior advisors. The parents and class officers put together a fun shin-dig complete with gift wrap relay races and
musical chairs. Thursday was a half day and now we're on break!

Hitting a Wall

Look what we did upstairs.

And by we, I mean, a colleague from school who is very good with drywall. Our only part in the construction will be to paint it.

Editted: The wall is when you come up the stairs. It separates what was the office, but will now be a guest bedroom. The first photo is taken from the stairwell, the second, from inside the old office. As soon as you come up the stairs, there's a wall, with the door directly across from the top of the stairs. As you come around the corner, you're now in a hallway heading towards the bathroom and the bonus room. Make sense? It's a little wierd right now, but once we get the paint and the lighting worked out, it will be awesome!

Christmas List

Guess what Ryan wants for Christmas?

Creative Display

I came up with something totally on my own. Usually, I get my ideas from magazines (Real Simple, Parents, etc) or from someone else's blog, but this one was all me. So I wanted to share in case anyone else liked it and wanted to try.

I usually keep all my Christmas cards in a basket. I really wanted to be able to enjoy the photos this year, but I have never found a display thing that I really liked or that would hold enough photos. So, I made this on my pantry door:

I bought some holiday ribbon and stapled it (thumb tacks wouldn't work) into the sides of the door. We hang the cards on the ribbon with tiny clothespins. All the supplies came from Michael's. Hope you like it!

The Dixon

On Saturday we went to the Dixon art gallery with Mason and Melissa to see the Babar exhibit and hear a story.

Well, the exhibit wasn't as kid friendly as we had hoped, and the storytime apparently ended last weekend. Fortunately, it was warm enough outside for the boys to run around in the beautiful gardens!

We also tried to get Melissa to take a family Christmas card photo, but Mason wanted to be in it too!

Counting Down to Christmas

Ryan gets it this year (OK, not completely, but a bit more). So we are cutting out the picture from the local newspaper and pasting it to the calendar everyday.

We are changing the number of days left on the wooden santa everyday.

And we are taking a piece off the chain everyday.

Fun stuff!
